Combating Acne and Blackheads Holistically

We can all relate to having acne and blackheads. Sometimes, you just can’t get rid of every single little blemish on your face. It ruins moods and it makes everyone feel insecure. There are ways to treat, combat, and soothe acne and blackheads though. Some of these ways are holistic and natural. So, today, we’re talking about those methods and how to use them.

What Cause Acne & Blackheads?

Before we fight the enemy, we must first understand the enemy. How do we get acne and blackheads? They don’t just manifest out of thin air nor are we born with them. So let’s review.

Acne and blackheads come from blocked pores. Pore can be blocked by oils, dead skin, or bacteria. You basically have a ton of open follicles on your body. Your acne can get aggravated by hormones, diet, stress, and certain medications. So how can we fight them?

Apple Cider Vinegar

This vinegar is made up from fermented apple cider or unfiltered pressed apple juice. Like many vinegars, it can fight against bacteria and viruses. Apple cider vinegar contains several organic acids that have been proven to kill acne and suppress the inflammation while preventing scarring.

How To Use It:

Use 1 part apple cider vinegar and 3 parts water (more if you have sensitive skin)

Cleanse your face before applying mixture

Allow it to sit on your face for 5-20 seconds then rinse and pat dry

Repeat 1-2 times per day as needed

Honey & Cinnamon Mask

Both of these ingredients are great sources of antioxidants And studies have shown that applying it to the skin is more effective at reducing acne than retinoids and benzoyl peroxide. They both hold the ability to combat bacteria while reducing inflammation.

How To Use It:

Mix 2 TBSP of honey with 1 teaspoon cinnamon together to form a paste

Cleanse your face before applying the mask for about 10-15 minutes

Rinse it completely off and pat your face dry

Spot Treating with Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil made from the leaves of a small Australian tree called, Melaleuca alternifolia. It’s a well known element in fighting bacteria, inflammation, and just over all acne reduction. It’s very potent though so you always need to dilute it with water.

How To Use It:

Mix 9 parts water with 1 part tea tree oil

Dip a cotton swab in the mixture and apply to affected area

Moisturize if desired

Repeat process 1-2 times a day as needed

Green Tea

I’d have to say that this is a miracle ingredient for me personally. It’s filled with antioxidants and drinking it helps improve health. While official studies haven’t been conducted, there is proof that applying it to the skin helps fight acne. Green tea extract, on the other hand, does have studies backing up its effectiveness in reducing the nasty oil that pimples are filled with. Getting creams and lotions from the store is one way to do it but, personally, I like the at home methods.

How To Use It:

Steep tea in boiling water for 3-4 minutes

Allow it to cool

Use a cotton ball to apply or a spritzing bottle

Allow to dry then rinse and pat dry

Ginger Paste

Recently, people have been mixing ginger powder with a little bit of water to create a paste then applying it to blackhead areas. This is an accurate method of blackhead removal despite the burning sensation you feel during the process. Even just eating it helps (which is why I try to add a little bit of it in almost all my food). Please be cautious with this method as there have been no studies conducted, just videos on media platforms.

How To Use IT:

Mix ginger powder and water until it creates a paste

Apply to desired area

Allow it to dry

Rinse and pat your skin dry

Acne is a true menace to us but we have the facilities to naturally fight it. Not every day has to be riddled with acne and self consciousness. You deserve better than that.
